Years ago they would put chalk down to stop you slipping while ballroom dancing
it reduces the co-eficiency of friction...and you can slide and spin more easily...

it is not a talc, it is a type of wax and it is for grip so that they dont slip over! if it was talc it would be quite funny tho....lotsa sneezing and a lovely smell!x
